Calcium is a mineral most often associated with healthy bones and teeth. Calcium benefits human health in other important ways including a role in blood clotting and regulation of normal heart rhythms.

A recent study on alternative products found that 43.4% of plant-based milks and 36.4% of plant-based yogurts reviewed contained no calcium. Meanwhile, dairy products are rich in calcium. One cup of milk provides 30% of a person’s recommended daily intake while one ounce of cheddar cheese provides 20% of a person’s daily calcium needs.
