Recognizing Exceptional Journeys at Agropur

Danielle Duquet

Danielle Duquet joined Agropur as a logistics clerk nearly three decades ago. Before that, she had a remarkable career in the world of horse racing, a field where women were underrepresented at the time. Her exceptional journey as a jockey is a source of inspiration, demonstrating that passion and determination can pave the way to extraordinary achievements, no matter the obstacles.

Danielle’s story perfectly illustrates how a seemingly ordinary experience can spark an unexpected passion and steer a life in a completely new direction. In 1975, while seriously considering a career in law, a visit to Jean-Paul Charron’s stable at the Blue Bonnets Racetrack in Montreal awakened in her a love for the world of horse racing.

Success in Adversity

Following that visit, Danielle decided to return to the racetrack to work there during the summer, showing a willingness to immerse herself in this fascinating world. Her enthusiasm and perseverance quickly paid off, as Mr. Charron recognized her potential and offered her a career opportunity as a jockey. This vote of confidence was a turning point .

In a male-dominated field at the time, Danielle’s mere presence drew negative comments and skepticism. She chose to ignore them and kept smiling.

Passionate and diligent, Danielle quickly earned the respect of her male colleagues. At the Jean-Paul Charron stable, she participated in 123 races and won 14 of them. In Quebec, she was the first jockey to win a race in under two minutes. Her expertise even led her to participate in a special event on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, where she competed against nine men in a competition she brilliantly won, marking a highlight of her career.

A Career Shift

After two decades of dedication to the stable, Danielle made the courageous decision to seek a better balance between her professional and personal life. This journey led her to Agropur, where she initially held a position as a logistics clerk.

Over the years, Danielle expanded her skill set by taking on various roles within the organization, including planning, cheese classification, and credit services. Today as an Accounts Receivable Clerk, she collaborates with numerous departments and colleagues, and is involved in a variety of stimulating projects. Danielle’s passion for her work is a constant source of motivation to continue her journey at Agropur. To those considering a career in the dairy industry, she offers this advice: "Having studied or started your career in a particular field does not mean you have to stay there indefinitely. You always have the option to change paths."

Danielle is an inspiring woman of character who earned impressive recognition in a field where she was constantly in the minority. Her journey reminds us that women proudly hold the place they deserve, no matter the industry.
