Nova Scotia Government Visits Agropur’s Bedford Plant to Support Maritimes Investment
We recently welcomed representatives from the Government of Nova Scotia to its Bedford plant, marking an important step in the Cooperative’s major investment project focused on value‑added dairy protein manufacturing in the Maritimes
The visit included John Lohr, Nova Scotia’s Minister of Finance and Treasury Board; Damian Stoilov, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Bedford South and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Growth and Development; and representatives from the Department of Agriculture. L. Gregory Archibald, President of the Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia, was also present during the visit. They were welcomed by Agropur leaders, including Jeannie van Dyk, Vice President, Atlantic; Maxime Devourdy, President, Ingredients; and Shaina France, Plant Director.

During the tour, Agropur outlined its plan to invest several hundred million dollars to transform the Bedford facility into a center of expertise in value‑added protein manufacturing, while maintaining some fluid milk operations and adding a butter manufacturing line. Once completed, the project is expected to double dairy ingredient and butter processing capacity in the Maritimes.
In addition to strengthening the competitiveness of the local dairy industry, this project will support the creation of 30 skilled jobs in Bedford.
Agropur thanks the Government of Nova Scotia and its partners for their collaboration in advancing this strategic project, which will generate long‑term value for its members, employees, and the communities it serves.

The Bedford initiative is part of nearly $1 billion in investments being made by Agropur at its Bedford (Nova Scotia) and Beauceville (Quebec) plants, reinforcing the Cooperative’s role as a strategic player in the Canadian protein market and helping meet growing demand for protein‑enriched products.
These projects remain subject to final approval by the end of 2026. In the meantime, Agropur will finalize its detailed analyses and continue its efforts to secure financial support in order to obtain the required authorizations.
